On the BIG Island

On the BIG Island

The Island of Hawai´i...

is larger than all the Hawaiian Islands combined and, yet, has only one tenth of the entire state's population. It is filled with culture, tradition, lush tropical valleys and waterfalls, ancient petroglyphs, and so much more. The Hawai´i Volcanoes National Park - home of the Fire Goddess Pele - contains the world's most active volcano. The volcano is both spectacular to see and safe to visit.

Due to the high elevations of the two mountains Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, there is an occasional snow covering their peaks during the winter months making snow skiing and sunbathing possible in the same day.

Rainbow

The Big Island is known for it's rainbows, both bright and beautiful. It is not uncommon to see a rainbow such as this glowing from one of the many waterfalls on the Island. There is no way to capture their beauty on film.

So imagine yourself sitting along the base of one of the falls watching the rainbows intensity first hand.

The climate of the island is paradise. Average temperatures are in the high 70's with cooler evenings. The Summers are generally drier while the winters have more rain which is known as "liquid sunshine" as it is still generally warm.

The Big Island is well known for the Hula. It's nearby in Hilo that the largest annual competition, the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, takes place the week following Easter. Imagine the Olympics of the Hula with thousands of people here to perform and experience the magic. You will not want to miss out on an opportunity to experience the hula.

The Butterfly Inn is centrally located for access to the white, black and green sand beaches. Just grab your swimsuit a towel and spend a day swimming, snorkeling, surfing, kayaking, or enjoying the sun on the beach. In the evening, image yourself walking in the sand and enjoying the most brilliant sunsets, and hearing the waves crashing along the shore...it is no wonder that Hawai´i is called paradise.
